Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards

Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards

Muhammed Ali said "Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than explore their power to change it." The 2019 Tribeca Disruptor Award Winner was Mick Ebeling, founder of Not Impossible Labs. Mick was one of many incredible, inspiring and brilliant honorees we got to meet yesterday, including some Nobel Prize winners and Nelson Mandela's grandson. Mick continues to distinguish himself from the pack by using technology and data to create groundbreaking and innovative solutions to some of the world's biggest problems. He was recently named one of Forbes "Greatest World Leaders" and this is his second time winning this award. MDC was honored to be here and congratulates Mick Ebeling!
Pokémon World Premiere

Pokémon World Premiere

MDC would like to thank Justice Smith for taking time on the red carpet to come meet Nemo, who loves Pokémon and was so excited to meet him!! This was Justice's big night as the star of the film and even though the event was right in Times Square and there were thousands of fans screaming for his attention, Justice and his publicist Lauren made time to come over and say hello to Nemo, who is currently undergoing treatment for pediatric cancer. It's this compassion from people like Justice and Lauren that continues to give me hope when things get tough, and it's moments like these that continue to fuel the work I'm trying to do for these brave young kids and their families.

She made time to connect with each child, put everyone at ease and even switched to fluent Spanish when needed! She's not afraid to stand up for herself and on behalf of those in need and she's been a strong and courageous advocate for millions of others, especially women. It's great to know she's a truly kind, genuine and compassionate individual in real life as well. Thank you again Amber!!
Story Tellers - M.J. Fox and Dennis Leary

Story Tellers - M.J. Fox and Dennis Leary

MDC Productions was pleased to be at an amazing panel with Denis Leary and Sir Michael J. Fox, a "national treasure". After receiving the devastating news that he had Parkinson's, M.J. Fox started his own foundation which is now the largest funder of Parkinson's disease research in the world. He spoke about how difficult it was to have spinal surgery because he had to learn to walk again. During his recovery, he took a bad fall and had moments where he'd lament how long it took him to do things many of us take for granted. But then he had an epiphany. With Parkinson's (or any disability), everything takes twice as long and as a result, life moves much slower. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing! By shifting his perspective, he was able to appreciate each moment and just feel grateful to be alive. Every single step he takes is literally one into the great unknown -- maybe he'll fall down, maybe he won't -- but either way he knows he'll always get up, keep fighting and keep living the best way he knows how. And he's not just fighting for his own life, dignity, sanity and happiness. He's also fighting for millions of others who suffer from Parkinson's and other similarly crippling neurodegenerative diseases. The man is a LEGEND...and he's a pretty famous actor too!

Fun Night with STATE Bags

Honored to spend quality time @RMHNY with Scot and Jacq Tatelman, founders of STATE Bags, a charitable company which was recently featured in TIME and Forbes for the difference they're making with underprivileged youth all across the US. For every purchase, STATE supports a child in need by donating fully stocked backpacks, funding impactful programs or shedding light around social inequalities. Whether it's helping low-income families, hospitalized children or those in foster care, STATE Bags finds a unique and helpful way to give back. Over the years they've donated thousands upon thousands of bags and products. In one day, they visited 8 different charities and donated almost 1,000 backpacks filled with socks, crayons, jewelry and more. This compassionate and generous duo are so inspiring!

A World Champion, A Trainer of Superheroes and The Winter Soldier

What do you get when a world swimming champion, a famous trainer and one of the Avengers come together under one roof? Aside from that being a normal day over at Don's gym, it was an extra special one at Ronald McDonald House New York because they were there to spend quality time with kids battling cancer and listen to the parents talk a bit about their struggles. We had an incredibly insightful and meaningful conversation about the power of positivity and we're all truly humbled by the courage and grace displayed by these families. Don Saladino, Sebastian Stan and Merle Liivand...thank you so much for being there and showing these families they've got support from all corners of the world.

James McAvoy Brings Joy

James McAvoy Brings Joy

James McAvoy has played many amazing, iconic roles in his distinguished career. He plays 24 different characters in his new movie alone! But here's one side you don't get to see on the big screen and this time he's not acting. James is a kind, humble, down-to-earth guy and it's hard to picture our compassionate, empathetic friend as 'The Beast'! James took time from an insanely busy schedule promoting "Glass" and getting ready to host SNL to meet these kids and learn more about how parents cope in the face of such a devastating diagnosis. Very hard to describe the impact of his visit in words, but the video captures some of the smiles and happy memories that will be treasured forever.

We formed our Active Response Team to provide civilian support for First Responders like him and many others. MDC Attends Hopeland Screening of The Front Runner

MDC Attends Hopeland Screening of The Front Runner

MDC was honored to be invited to a first-look screening of The Front Runner, a thought-provoking look at the controversial rise and fall of presidential candidate Gary Hart that provided the backdrop for today's sensational political climate and celebrity culture. The film stars Hugh Jackman, who joined the event and spoke about his experience making the movie. Gary Hart once said that while most people think America is a democracy, we're actually a republic and the only way a republic works is if everyone is willing to embrace their civic duty. Truer words were never spoken. Imperfect and flawed, Gary Hart was still a sympathetic figure who wanted to live a life of public service, not a life in the public eye. The conversation was especially poignant to have on a bittersweet day when America said goodbye to the much-loved President Bush who won the election when Hart withdrew; another charismatic and intelligent politician who embraced his own civic duty through distinguished military, public and political service. Brilliant movie and thanks so much to OurHopeland for inviting us.

We wish Sebastian nothing but the best and many more happy birthdays to come!!! Huge thanks to Hasbro who generously donated toys for the kids and to Netania who helped make the entire visit possible.

Despite being in the middle of an exhaustive global press tour that had him in a different city each day, Henry made these kids a priority and I can't thank him enough. He continues to give so generously of his time and attention to the kids and families at Ronald McDonald House New York and MDC will be forever grateful to him for his unwavering support. This was Narnia costar William Moseley's first visit to the House and he met the kids just after they finished a Narnia Movie Marathon. You can imagine the excitement when King Peter and Aslan walked into the room! We were so impressed with their sensitivity to the situation and genuine empathy towards the families. Thank you again to Liam and William for all their support!

FARE: Food Allergy Research & Education Organization

FARE: Food Allergy Research & Education Organization

1 in 13 kids have a food allergy. Over 40% have already experienced a life-threatening reaction. Watching a child become sick, unable to breathe or become unresponsive is beyond terrifying, especially when there are only precious seconds between life and death. We're very proud to support FARE, the world's largest private source of funding for food allergy research and the leader in the fight against food allergies. MDC was honored to attend FARE's annual luncheon, where we heard from parents whose children died as a result of something as simple as eating a grilled cheese sandwich or granola bar; completely avoidable tragedies. We are excited to work with them and the rest of the medical community to continue to raise awareness, impact legislation and help make the world safer for our kids.

Interviewing the World's Leading Cancer Researchers

MDC's production team had the privilege of meeting world renowned doctors and researchers who have made more of an impact in their lifetime than most could ever dream of. One discovered a cure for a specific type of leukemia and another discovered how to reverse certain effects of pediatric brain cancer! Each and every discovery they've made has saved countless lives. Their global team is led by leading oncologist and scientist, Dr. Samuel Waxman, whose "Institute Without Walls" has totally transformed the cancer research landscape. MDC was on hand to interview participants at their annual research symposium.

The Brush Off

The Brush Off

The Blavatnik Family Foundation Wellness Center serves the caregivers staying at Ronald McDonald House New York by providing respite and critical self-care support for the mind, body and spirit. With that mission in mind, a variety of fitness classes and equipment, meditation sessions, massage and spa services, healing music classes, nutrition workshops and stress-management discussions are offered on a daily basis.

"The Brush Off" was the center's first big event; encouraging caregivers to stop by and brush off winter and refresh for spring while receiving a variety of relaxing spa services (massages, facials, etc.). Healthy snacks were served along with detoxifying juices and smoothies. DIY stations allowed caregivers to learn how to make exfoliating scrubs, essential oil room sprays and floral arrangements to welcome spring. Goodie bags included natural bristle body/face brushes as well as other self-care and pampering items. Special thanks to event donors, including Herbal Essences who generously sent gifts for all the moms!

The generous gift from the Blavatnik Family Foundation provides a home for the Integrative Wellness Program at Ronald McDonald House New York.

MDC is beyond grateful to actor JAMES McAVOY (star of hit films X-Men, Wanted, Atonement, Split and Sherlock Gnomes) for his recent visit to Ronald McDonald House New York. MDC spent months organizing this event, only to have plans derailed less than 24hrs before due to a crazy freak spring snowstorm which left 60 families stranded and unable to travel to Bryant Park Hotel. James braved the blizzard and spent the entire afternoon with the kids and their families, giving them a memory of a lifetime they will never forget. We are forever grateful to James for making the trip in such horrible weather and going out of his way to make these kids feel so special and loved. Thank you so much for having such a big heart and thanks to Paramount, Allied and 42West for making this day possible!!
